PACK STUDIES: attempt01
PACK STUDIES is a research on inventiveness at the limits of eyesight. Márcio, Sindri and Matty have a very distinct range of visual perception, together they attempt to integrate a holistic ability of sensing relaying on all their receptive abilities, to build an understanding of vision independent of eyesight range. Allowing a grown felt-sense to reimagine a creative process in dance and the possible ways of sharing, addressing and accessing this art form.
During June 2023 they explored the adaptive quality of somatic compensation patterns, that enables a state of creative reinvention, searching for actual forms of cognitive resource able to sense from the field of experience different version of its reality.
Their residency in PACT is their first meeting, and this research sharing with an audience, their first attempt.

Márcio K. Canabarro, dancer, with the eye condition Retinitis Pigmentosa. Márcio has interest in
how care and qualities of awareness shapes the systems we live in, designing our interfaces of connection. For over a decade, has worked with Meg Stuart/Damaged Goods, Adrienn Hód - Hodworks and Peter Pleyer - CRANKY BODIES a/company.
Sindri Runudde, dancer and choreographer, has Leber's hereditary optic neuropathy, they explore multi-sensory approaches to the body as a living archive, using sound, art, and performance. Sindri invite artists to question how we perceive the world around us through our senses. They are educated in contemporary circus and dance, and tour their works internationally.
Matty Zighem, skateboarding instructor and author, founded ONE MOVEMENT and the SKATEBOARD ACADEMY in Belgium, to encourage creativity and opportunities through sports and education. Matty has Keratoconus, a degenerative eye condition, and is passionate about creating space for people with limited or no vision as in the "LOW VISION” skateboard project.

When I grasp an environment is acknowledging me, I feel a strong sense of continuation, (and extension) of belonging. It might be a mutual process, where my focus gets curious to notice where I am, the place, the situation, the density of a particular room, the feelings that rise and the sensations that leave. Is a dialog with what I afford to perceive, and what the factors of a situation guide me to think, or to be. As the heat wave drowsiness, which brings laughter to bad jokes. Or the frustration steaming from waiting or walking too long for food, or to home…

At PACT it became visible to me how quality of awareness comes into play. Not just in the creation or cultivation of artistic inquiries, stimulating desire and agency to propose tasks, activities, movements, and the freedom to rest, but also in how it fundamentally shapes our relationships, our will to become, trust, collaborate, to see oneself as part of a place. Kinship and shared moments of perception makes us open to the unexpected, to accidents, or to the trouble of sharing time and ideas with each other. It defines what is brought to light from the individual field of reality, and how serious or playful we are willing to get.
